With the free 15mins parking it is easier then ever to visit the CBD. Love this store and will be back!
He is an extremely discourteous man, and I have no idea how he remains in business. Also he refused to give me back a $5 "fitting fee" he said he'd refund when I bought a hat. Go to another store.
An exceptional store, one of very few original shops remaining in central Townsville. Walking into this shop is walking back in time - hand written price tags, stock stacked around the old shop, catering to a shifting clientele but echoing the days when it was the country outfitters directly across the road from Townsville's now closed Flinders Street Station. Good quality hats and boots, swags, and while a million years from modern, you can feel the history of the place and the people who would stop by to pick up the camping and clothing supplies they needed for life on the land. Places like this are quickly disappearing and being replaced by big box stores that will sell you the latest big brand commercial gear - but this is a place that still cherishes quality and longevity. Yes, it's old and a relic of the past - and it's absolutely worth a visit and spending some money on something that will have a story behind it even as you walk out of the store, just because of where you bought it.
Rude, grumpy old bloke who probably should have called it a day 10 years ago.
Customer Parking is the lifeblood of business and unfortunately for the all the businesses in this part of Flinders Street the parking is very difficult preventing many people from shopping there. Business owners should be helping in any way possible to ease the difficult parking situation for potential customers. It is therefore unbelievable that the old guy in the Melick & Co store, stood in the doorway of his shop and refused to give me 'change' for the parking meter when I politely asked - it is our 'policy' he said. As I walked away to get change from another shop next door he called out to me as I walked away and said that 'nobody else' would give me change either. The lady in the next shop not only gave me change without hesitation but also got a sale from me because whilst inside I spotted something I needed and bought it. Here's the problem Mr Grumpy, if you want people to go into your store, it is better to have a jar of change on hand and let them in - who knows what they might spot and IF, collectively, the store owners in the area do not work together to make it easier for potential customers to do business, then you deserve the lack of customer traffic that I am certain you experience. I had never been inside your store EVER before and unfortunately because of your attitude I will never likely go into it in the future. One can only hope that you are actually the exception in that street.
